My Personal Income Has More Than Doubled!

Practice management requires a different set of knowledge and skills than we get through our education in tax accounting.

I am now in control of my practice, setting goals and taking the steps necessary to reach them.

Sterling knows exactly what it takes to build a successful accounting practice.

I’ve always been a goal-oriented person. After receiving my Masters in taxation for the University of Texas at Austin, I married my high school sweetheart and started working for one of the Big 8 (now down to the Final Four) accounting firms. Fifteen years later I opened my own practice in Amarillo, where I have been ever since.

Being my own boss, however, wasn’t working as well as I thought it would. The practice wasn’t as profitable as it should have been. Though I was an expert at accounting, I didn’t really know how to manage and motivate staff and keep the practice moving toward the goals I set. I would get completely bogged down during tax season, my shelves overflowing with work to review.

In 1994, with three children approaching college age, it was time to smooth out the practice and boost its profitability. I joined Sterling and my practice and life have never been the same since.

The Sterling program got me back on track. The consulting and training put me completely in charge of the practice instead of letting the practice run me. The Basic Organization course taught me to coordinate the whole team based on their unique role in overall office production. I learned how to set performance goals and objectives and how to systematically achieve them. In the Management by Statistics course, I learned exactly how to measure progress toward attaining those goals. In Executive Basics, I learned the fundamentals of managing personnel and how to fully engage them as part of a team working together to achieve expansion and greater profitability.

Sterling has worked with me the entire time and they have also helped me get my key staff trained as experts in the management technologies. These staff now have a greater understanding of how their specific role is expected to contribute to our business. They know what steps to take and can enhance our production by offering timely solutions. Sterling helped me hire the right staff and get them motivated. The staff know they are part of the team and are rewarded as the company grows.

I’ve been with Sterling for over a dozen years. My wife, who is also my office manager, and I have celebrated our thirtieth anniversary, our youngest daughter is an engineering sophomore at Texas A&M. Our business has grown every year since 1994. I am now in control of my practice, setting goals and taking the steps necessary to reach them. My personal income has more than doubled and I am free to take time off without worrying that the place will fall apart in my absence. Clients know they can trust us to handle their finances in a timely and effective manner.

I engaged in Sterling’s services because I found that practice management requires a different set of knowledge and skills than we get through our education in tax accounting. Sterling knows exactly what it takes to build a successful accounting practice.  Let me invite you to look into Sterling more closely.
